This picturesque traditional winery has lots of charm and a rich heritage still housing South America’s oldest white wine, a Semillon from 1942. The old white wine was originally used for blending with red wines (a common practice at the time) and was accidentally forgotten about and put away in the cellar.
When new owners, the Pescarmona family, bought the winery the 1800 litre barrel was rediscovered in 1975. As you tour this pretty and small winery you can see the empty old barrel (the wine was bottled in 1990) and learn about the story, which has become something of local legend.
Lagarde also offers a great opportunity to learn how to make sparkling wine in the champenoise method and tasting the final product at the end. Tours usually involve also taking a guided stroll through the vineyards and olive groves.
Foodie’s Delight: Sit on the vine covered patio for a traditional Argentinine barbecue style lunch (asado) paired with Lagarde’s wines.
